Dog owners tend to be healthier than the average person and dogs can provide many health benefits.

The Lance 1989 case study proved that dogs can sniff and defect cancer. A patient said that her dog used to constantly sniff a mole on her leg and it turned out to be malignant melanoma. Different other studies have shown that dogs can detect various types of cancer such as bladder, lung breast ovarian and colon cancer.

Dogs can also keep you active from begging you for a walk or a game of fetch so you end up walking frequently or exercising. According to a 2008 study by the National Cancer Institute, dog owners walk 19 minutes more per week compared to the people who don’t have a dog.

Some people train their dogs to detect low blood sugar levels. According to a 2000 article in the British Medical Journal, dogs not only detect when their owners falling glucose levels, they also nudged their owners into eating.

Adopting a dog is a big responsibility but it can give you various health benefits and it will make you feel less anxious, lonely and depressed.
